I read a touching story recently. Out of it I preached “Take the world but give me Jesus.” Basically as the story goes, a wealthy man and his son loved art and had many of the masters. They admired them often together, until the son went to Vietnam and died while saving another soldier’s life. Later that young man painted a portrait of his son and brought it to the father, apologizing for its quality compared to the masters. The father cherished the picture and always took his guests to see it first. He died shortly after and there was to be an auction of all the art, including his son. The rich were there and the auctioneer began with the picture of the son. NO one bid and in fact, they became irritated and urged the auctioneer to proceed to the masters, yet he continued, “Who will take the son? One hundred, who will bid?” They became more angry and demanded, “We came to see the masters.” Finally, from the back of the room the long-time poor gardener said, “I’ll give ten dollars.” “Who will bid 20?” The auctioneer said, “Sold, for ten dollars.” And laid his gavel down. “The bidding is over.” “But wait, we came to see the masters, it cannot be over.” The auctioneer said, “When I was hired, the only stipulation I had was to sell the son. Whoever took the son inherits it all, the art, the whole estate. The auction is over.” And so it is with Christ, whosoever takes the Son inherits it all.
It is sad today that many people are searching for the bigger, better, brighter things in life… and are not taking the Son. Eph. 2:1-9 should be read and notice in v. 4 that it was the “great love” of God that sent His only Son to die for man. In fact, John 3:16 tells us that God “so loved… that He gave His only begotten Son” to die for man.
John 1:11-12 states, “He came unto His own, and His own received Him not. But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.”
1 John 5:12 “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”
Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your only Saviour? He is the only way to Heaven, and no one goes to the Father but by Him. John 14:6
