The Power of the Gospel

Romans 1:16 states, "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth: to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."

We are living in a day when many Churches have gotten away from the gospel of Christ. Many Churches have become giant social clubs that cater to the social need of man and leave out the GOSPEL which is the power of God unto salvation.

How an a Church have hundreds in attendance and never or rarely have people saved? The answer is they attract folks with other plans or activities, leaving out the Gospel, which is the power of God unto salvation. 1 Cor. 1:18 states, "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved, it is the power of God."

A preacher that doesn't preach the Gospel doesn't have the power of God, and is building "wood, hay, stubble" which will one day be revealed by fire according to 1 Cor. 3:9-15.

I list here at least six things the Gospel has the power to do:

  1. It has the power to find us. (Luke 19:19, John 1:11, Rom. 10:9-21)
  2. It has the power to free us. (1 Cor. 4:15, Acts 26:18, Col. 1:13)
  3. It has the power to fill us. (Eph. 1:13, Eph. 3:14-21)
  4. It has the power to forgive us. (Gal 1:8-9, Col. 1:20-22)
  5. It has the power to form us. (2 Cor. 5:17, Rom. 12:1-2, Phil. 1:27-30)
  6. It has the power to fuel us. (Acts 1:8, 2 Tim. 1:7-8)

The Gospel is described in 1 Cor 15:1-4. It is the message of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the sin of the world. If we gave man everything he needs physically, emotionally, socially and financially and did not give him the Gospel, we fail to use the power of God to bring him to salvation. Shame on us! Shame of preachers who build big Churches without the Gospel! Please see again 1 Corinthians 1:18. Have you believed the Gospel, or have you simply become a member of a social club? You will never go to heaven until you believe and respond to the Gospel! THERE IS NO OTHER WAY!
