Some regrets that will die with us or go with us into eternity
It is hard to imagine that as a nation we have drifted so far from God. This nation which was founded, "One Nation Under God" is undergoing monumental change. This is brought about by a small minority of people in powerful places designing to literally remove all reference to the God of the Bible in our society. It is hard to imagine as well that a Nation so blessed cannot recognize the hand of Almighty God in her bounty and blessing. If the founding fathers were with us today, they would rise up in protest, and if necessary, give their lives for this testimony.
When the Pilgrims proclaimed the first Thanksgiving, it was after a bitter cold had reduced their number from 120 to 25. Only 5 women were left and all that was left was a few patches of corn and a few wild turkeys.
When George Washington issued the first Thanksgiving proclamation he said, "It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God; to obey His will; to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly implore His protection."
True believers do not have to have a special day a year to be thankful to God, but we would like for our nation to recognize with the founding fathers that we owe our Thanksgiving to God for His blessings on us and our great land. The Psalms are full of Praise and Thanksgiving to God, However I chose just a few verses to point out that we are told to Be thankful unto Him.
Psalm 100:4-5 states, "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name. For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations."
Psalm 103 should be read and notice verse 2 "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits." Read also Psalm 107 and notice verses l, 8, 15, 21, and 31.
According to the Scriptures, the air we breath, the food we eat, the things we enjoy, the things we have and the peace we know through Jesus Christ the Savior is traced back to the Source of all blessings, The God of Heaven described in the Bible. 2 Cor.9: 15 "Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable Gift."
