I see thy tears

Some regrets that will die with us or go with us into eternity
I preached Sunday February 13, 2011 on the Subject “A Day In Thy Courts” dealing with meeting with the Lord for worship. In a nutshell, I described what is taking place in our time like no other time in my Christian life. Basically, many Churches have gone from God-centered to man-centered. It is not hard for true Bible believers to see that those kinds of services are geared to appeal to man rather than to God and His Word. The mood is geared to worldly tastes; the music is geared to worldly tastes, the messages are geared to worldly tastes, the methods are geared to worldly tastes, and sadly, the ministers are geared to appeal to worldly styles. Like it or not, the reason behind having two different styles of services is to appeal to the two different kinds of people. The decision makers know that the older Saints will not tolerate a contemporary style of service, and the younger crowd will not attend a traditional style of service.
Let’s be honest. It is a given that in a short while, there will be no older saints to appease and the services will be totally contemporary. I explained the Spiritual result this way: “While one door is open that says ‘come as you are’, another door says, ‘God exited here.’” 1 Samuel 4:21 explains what happened. The name Ichabod was given to a grandson of Eli which means, “The glory hath departed.” If we think we can do anything and call it “worship” and have God’s power, presence and blessing, we do not know our Bibles. Honestly, many Churches in our time could go right on without God’s power, presence and blessing, because it was not built on the Word of God in the first place.
I have read on several occasions Church notes in the newspaper which invite people to come as you are, and go further stating that it is okay to come in your bathing trunks from the beach. One has to wonder; does this include bikinis? My wife and I had a conversation lately with a lady who stated that she doesn’t even go to her own Church until preaching time because of the shameful music. A friend of mine told me on Saturday that a fellow Church member of his described a service he attended recently. They had a “Christian rapper” holding his crotch. That is more than “casual.” That is obscene! I think many parents do not know what their children are being exposed to in many youth services. No wonder their children do not want to go to the traditional services where the Bible is preached “In season, out of season; reprove, rebuke and exhort with all longsufferng and doctrine.” 2Tim. 4:2
There is no justification in the Bible, Old testament or New Testament, for a “casual Christianity.” There is one major, missing ingredient in “Casual Christianity” described in Psalm 19:7-11 esp. verse 9 “The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever.” The fear (reverence) of the LORD is missing. When the world (worldly people) are comfortable in, and accommodated by our surroundings, we can be assured, The Spirit of God is not there. Sure, the Bible tells us (2 Cor. 3:17) “Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” That liberty is not a liberation to do as we please and to be casual in our Christian lives. Simply stated, to be in step with the World is to be out of step with God. I write this, not to attack an individual Church, but to expose a drift and decline which places man above God and becomes man-centered rather than God-Centered.
Casual Christianity is man-centered. Please read Gal. 1:10
