Bright Lights In a Dark World

One of the greatest descriptions of a Godly Christian is that of being “a Light in a Dark World.”

Mt. 5:14 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”

Mt. 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Luke 12:35 “Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;”

Eph. 5:8 “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:”

Phil. 2:15 “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;”

This is a great verse revealing that when True Christians live a life pleasing unto God, light is sent out in the dark world of sin.

“Light” means illuminator, a luminary…brilliancy.

It is strange that the entertainment world refers to it’s own as “stars” when most of them are in darkness.

Daniel 12:3 states, “And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.”

Jesus referred to John the Baptist in John 5:35 “He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.”

This world has never in my lifetime been more dark Spiritually, and sadly, many professing Christians have become so much like the world that it is impossible to tell the difference…there is little light going out.

How can a Christian be a burning and shining light for Jesus?

In Matt. 25:1-13, the difference between the 5 wise and the 5 foolish was the oil for their lamps. Oil is a type of the Holy Spirit, and what makes a Christian shine brighter in a dark world is the effect of the Holy Spirit on our lives.

In Matthew 25:7 the wise “trimmed their lamps” meaning “to put in proper order…remove that which keeps the lamp from burning it’s brightest!

Back in Matt. 5:16 the small two letter word “so” referring to “shine” tells us that it is not enough to just shine…We should “So Shine.”

God “So Loved” us…meaning, it was impossible for Him to love us any more. We as well should “So Live” that there is not limit or hindrance to our “Letting our light so shine.”

If we will “so love God”

And we will “so live for God”

We will be “so filled and trimmed by the Holy Spirit,”

That we will “So shine before men, that they may see (y)our good works, and glorify (y)our Father which is in heaven.”

Our lamp should be so full, and so trimmed that it is so bright, that the lost will be so convicted and God will be so glorified!
